Trading fruits and vegetables has been a part of our family since 1900s. Cathay Traders Limited shortly opened in Hong Kong after World War 2. Henry Leung started importing exclusively from New Zealand, Canada to become one of Hong Kong most prominent fruit importer.
In the meantime in the 1970s, Steven Leung has been in Taiwan establishing his own business. With good relationship with the Taiwanese government, he managed to import the first container of BC apples, from Canada’s Okanagan Valley. Over the next few years, Steven Leung becomes the sole agent of BC apple in the Far East, shipping over 20000 tons of apples to Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
After the 1990s, the Far East market changed and started to prefer Chinese fuji. Steven Leung saw the opportunity and started providing Chinese fuji to his existing customers. There was some success, but during this time, it was difficult to sustain a consistent reliable quality due to the poor packing facility in China. So eventually Steven Leung decided to stop trading Chinese fuji.
In 2004, Steven and Richard Leung decided to invest US$ 3,000,000 to build a modern packing facility in China. The plant, namely Alfa Fruit Packers, was completed and started operations on September 2004. Over the past 10 years, Alfa has become a renowned brand in China, India, Indonesia, and Philippines.
Our family has been in the fruit business for over 100 years and ongoing. Our goal is simple: Bringing the best fruit to our customers.
